"Mr Price Pro Ballito has declared a music war!

Meet Durban's next IT GIRL Merisha Lalla!

There are many phenomenal women out there in the world and it is always refreshing to meet someone from your very own country and city who is taking on the world and making a positive change in the community.
Durban’s Gossip Girl is proud to introduce you to Durban’s next It Girl: Merisha Lalla. Born and raised in Durban, Merisha is truly an inspiration and role model to all young women out there.

Merisha is a journalist and is currently lecturing at Educor-Damelin. Her previous and impressive work experience includes: being the head of news and actuality - Radio Hindavani; reporter and producer of: Newsbreak - Lotus Fm; News Bulletin Producer and Presenter for Lotus Fm; Presenter and Reporter - Siyayinqoba Beat It! TV Programme.

Merisha’s work excellence and go-getting attitude has not gone unfounded. She has received awards of achievement and has been selected to participate in numerous prestigious programmes of recognition.

To name a few:
She was the winner of the Standard Bank Salutes the Women of KZN Award in the Rising Stars - Youth Role Models category (2008);

She was selected to represent South Africa in the “7th Know India Programme” held in India which was hosted by the Government of India. The forum brought together 30 youth from around the world for an Internship Programme in rural India.

She was selected to attend the Brightest Young Minds Conference, held in Gauteng in July 2007. The forum brought together 100 top students in South Africa for the purposes of leadership development, networking as well as the initiation and exploration of ideas and projects geared toward making a difference in Africa.

She was selected to represent the University of KwaZulu-Natla at the ABSA Student Village Women’s Leadership Conference. The gathering brought together 200 delegates to discuss and debate issues such as the woman’s role in society, women in leadership positions and women motivation.

She was a Presenter at the Hindi Shiksha Sangh Hindi Conference, where she presented a paper at the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, titled “Influence of Media on Language Learning”.

She was the President of the Hindu Students Association, University of KwaZulu-Natal (2006/2007).

The list does go on for this young achiever however I if I continue I think that I will run out of megabytes! (what’s that again? Ask mtn!).

Durban’s Gossip Girl got to interview this exceptional young lady and here it is:

Why did you decide to study journalism and pursue it as a career?

I had a flair for languages at school and enjoyed public speaking, debating and writing. I also enjoyed preparing newsletters and brochures for our school committees and cultural organizations. At that time, everyone in my family was going into medicine, accounting and science – so it was somewhat of an untapped territory.

What do you have to study to become a journalist?

A Diploma in Journalism or a Degree in Media and Communication will offer a good foundation. I chose the Media and Communication route to keep my options open, and later honed my skills in Journalism.

What are the career options for a person who is interested in studying journalism?

The scope is so vast, but to name a few: Editors, Reporters, Sub-editors, Photographers, Producers, Story Writers

What was the most interesting story that you have ever done?

I was at SABC during the 2009 Elections... We had to do stories about how people in outlaying towns and suburbs felt ahead of the Elections. I loved the travelling, engaging with different cultures, seeing how people live in these areas, asking them whether they would consider moving to the city, whether they would be voting, and their views on the current state of the country. Let’s just say, we take so much for granted living in a central place like Durban! (DGG: this must have been soo exciting and enlightening)

Did you ever have to wake up at odd hours in the morning to chase a lead or story?

Of course! While working for Siyayinqoba Beat It (the HIV/AIDS magazine programme on SABC 1)... we often had to get up really early and drive to our location…get there before the sun comes out as it will affect the filming, as well as before neighbours wake up and start asking questions about why reporters are there (the stigma around Aids is so huge).

What type of stories do you like to do?

I wish more editorial space was given to human interest, profiles and inspirational stories.

If you could meet and interview/write an article on any person/historical figure, who would it be and why?

The Indian cricket team! If I had to choose one person, it would be the iconic Sachin Tendulkar. I’m such a huge cricket fan, especially of Team India. Cricket is like a religion in India and the team is revered. There’s so many things I would like to ask them.

When I was younger, my dad used to watch cricket all the time, so we were forced to get used to it. During the World Cups in the mid 1990’s I even started a scrapbook on the Indian team. My other favourites are Rahul Dravid, Saurav Ganguly and Zaheer Khan.

Do you have any regrets in your career choice?

Except for the late nights, early mornings and deadlines…Absolutely not! I’ve been given the chance to meet and interview celebrities, politicians, ordinary inspirational people with lovely stories to tell, musicians and even international artists. It’s been nothing short of interesting, exciting, adrenaline pumping and such a learning curve in many respects from getting to know your strengths and weaknesses as a journalist to personal growth and development.

To who would you recommend pursuing this as a career, and why?

Anyone who wants to make a change in something they feel passionate about. A journalist has such “power” and “influence”. (DGG: I agree! A Debora Patta in the making...hmmm)

You are currently lecturing students at Educor-Damelin. How different is teaching compared to researching and writing stories/articles? Which do you enjoy more?

It’s rather different doing the theory as opposed to the practical. Having trained students while at Radio Hindvani, I realized that students need to interact with people who are in the field so I’m happy to be part of the training pool, equipping future journalists with the tricks of the trade. The two jobs are rather different – with the only link being that I now lecture content on what I used to practice. Each offers you something different and you cant really compare (sorry, I know that’s such a diplomatic answer).

Even though I’m not shy or have stage fright as I’m used to standing in front of crowds – I was scared at first to stand in front of a class. I’ve learnt how to handle them now, and am mastering my lecturing skills, marking skills, as well my approach with different types of students.
I miss practicing journalism, so I keep myself in touch by doing freelance work.

What other projects are you currently involved with?

I’ve always been passionate about youth activism as well as propagation of religion and culture. Currently I am involved in the following:

• Organiser of the FNB Durban Diwali Festival: On the organizing committee of the biggest Diwali festival in Durban. Organisation of the Float Procession & Media Launch as well as marketing of and encouraging participation in event.

• Media Officer & Founding Member of the Youth Renaissance Foundation: Tasked with mobilization of youth for the common purpose of working together to uplift, encourage and empower young people. Also engaged in community upliftment projects, feeding schemes and networking.

• Chairperson of the South African Hindu Maha Sabha Youth Council & Secretary of the Shree Sanathan Dharma Sabha of South Africa: National bodies for Hindus in South Africa. Involved with charity and outreach projects, youth development and upliftment initiatives, youth networking and partnership programmes and media liaison. Also involved with going to youth organizations and doing development and empowerment talks.

• Member of the Progressive Women’s Colloquium: Tasked with mobilizing women in a common purpose of debating issues that affect them and finding solutions for them. Development, empowerment and skills training are top of the agenda. (DGG: Wow I am amazed! Does this girl even sleep?!)

• What is the best advice that you have ever been given?

“To take a chance now and then”…My star sign is Virgo, so by nature I like to play things safe, plan ahead and know everything about everything… I’ve since mellowed!

What is the best advice that you can give to the youth out there and to anyone who is interested in following in your career path?

Don’t only complain and criticize…get involved and make a difference. (DGG: Could not agree with you more!)

Quickies:

Favourite food?

Mum’s fresh-chicken curry

Pet hate?

People who don’t match their clothes (DGG: interesting!)

Favourite hangout?

Suncoast (DGG: I like)

Name three things that you can’t live without?

My car, cellphone, and a good pair of earrings

All Durban Gossip Girl can say is well done Merisha! You are certainly making Durban proud and I am sure that this article will empower and inspire all girls out there to follow in your footsteps and pursue there dreams with steadfast determination. I foresee get things for this talented young leader and really hope that she has inspired you to rise up, move forward, be the change and own your own greatness.

Miley Cyrus Cannot Be Tamed!

"Hannah Montana may not be extinct yet, but Miley Cyrus is doing everything she can to kill her Disney alter ego dead.

In the music video for her new album's title track, "Can't Be Tamed," which premiered Tuesday, Cyrus presents herself as a scantily clad extinct species."

I have watched the video and to be quite honest, it is rather strange and raunchy yet juvenile at the same time. I would love to meet the person who concoted this video idea. The first and only question I would ask is: "dude what the jeepers were you thinking??". And another thing, where was her dad through all of this...does Billy approve?

Don't get me wrong I think that it is about time that Miley lets go of her squeaky clean Hannah Montana image. It's bound to happen sooner or later, but I think that for a girl with such talent, beauty, and solid moral upbringings, she could have spread her wing with more class.

Great Gift and Activity Ideas for Mother's Day

Mothers, what would we do without them?

Even though our mothers may tell us that they don’t expect anything from us and that our love alone is more than enough for them, Mother’s Day is a day in which we are given the opportunity to celebrate and show our mothers how very special they truly are. Although we should express these feelings and gestures of gratitude to our mothers throughout the year, some of us may have busy work schedules, live far away etc and the reality is that life happens and we let the moments pass to actually show them how much we really love and care about them.

Mother’s day is celebrated universally and it is a day set aside to remember and appreciate these phenomenal women who we all so lovingly refer to as: mum; mom; ma; mummy to name a few. Let’s take the opportunity to show our mother’s how very special they are. Remember, that this day is not exclusive to our biological mothers but it should be a day to appreciate all the ‘mother figures’ in our lives.

Durban’s Gossip Girl knows that most of you are studying, working or leading a very busy lifestyle, so I have made a list of great gift ideas and activities that would certainly help you in making this Mother’s day a memorable one.

Gift Ideas and Activities:

- Flowers: Nothing is more amazing and welcoming than receiving a bunch or bouquet of beautiful flowers from the one you love. Why not go to a florist near you and pick out some beautiful white or pink roses. If your mum loves a certain type of flower, pick out those. Make sure to include a card or a letter written from the heart and make sure that it is signed by all the family members.

Note: If you are on a budget, visit your garden and hopefully you can pick out and arrange a bunch of pretty flowers that would be equally amazing.

- Jewelery: If your mum is a person who loves to dress up and use jewelery, why not pick out something classic and beautiful to add to her collection. There are many jewelery stores that have Mother’s Day specials at the moment, so this does not have to leave a hole in your pocket. A lovely pair of earrings, an engraved bracelet or watch is just a few examples of what you could get her.

- If your mum has a hobby which she loves then why not get her something around that theme. For example: if she likes to paint – get her some beautiful oil paints, brushes and a canvass board; if she likes reading – find out what genre she is into and go to a bookstore and pick out a few new releases; if she loves gardening – create a hamper with exotic flower seed sachets; personalized garden gloves; a cute straw hat etc… you get the idea.

- Pamper her to a spa treatment: this is the perfect gift to give any mum who works hard and doesn’t have the time to pamper herself. Call around Durban - there is a lot of day spas and health and beauty spas which have really amazing treatments that are to die for. You may also be in luck as many of them will be promoting Mother’s Day specials.

- Goodie Hamper: why not be different and create a unique customized goodie hamper just for your mum. All you need to do is get a beautiful basket or box, then get creative and throw in a variety of things that your mum loves – decadent chocolates and truffles; pampering products like lotions, body butter, creams and luxury bath products; expensive tea/coffee; delicious biscuits; exotic nuts; a great book or dvd; microwave popcorn etc. Seal it with a personal note or card. This is a great gift as you have handpicked everything put yourself and your mum will know that you took the time to think of her and it will make it all that more sentimental. Remember though, this is for your mum…no having a go at the choccies once the hamper is opened!

- Take her out for a lovely brunch; lunch or supper. The last thing you want is for your mum to slave away in the kitchen on Mother’s Day. Why not make it a family outing, dress up and go to some place fancy for a change. There are a lot of restaurants that are having Mother’s Day specials (yet again). Remember to find out if you have to call in and book a table first, and get confirmation that the reservations are in order! Mother’s Day is a day that restaurants will most definitely make their money because no one wants to cook. You want is to rock up at the restaurant only to find that it is fully booked and you have to resort to take away.

- Another option is to get the whole family together (excluding your mum of course) and create a fabulous three course meal to remember. Go all out and do the grocery shopping the day before, have everything ready and on that day you can split the tasks into who makes the starters, the mains, and the dessert. It is something from the heart and it is sure to put a smile on your mum’s face. Just don’t start arguing on who has to do the washing and cleaning up…draw straws if need be.

- Why not be different and take your mum to the theatre or a concert to see a live show. Again, please book in advance and pick up the tickets on time.

- Most importantly, make her the queen for the day. Run to her every beck and call, and do not let her lift a finger. This day is called Mother’s Day for a reason…it’s all about her!

Well there you have it. Remember that these are just a few simple ideas and you would know your mum best and will be able to determine what would be perfect for her.

REMINDER: RETURN OLD R200.00 NOTES

Most of you may be aware of the current R200 note counterfeit problem in South Africa and the requests from the Reserve Bank to return all old series R200.00 notes which are still in circulation.

Do you have a R200.00 note in you wallet and are in a state of confusion as to whether this is applicable to you? Well, to clarify - this is how it works (to my understanding):

- If you have a R200.00 note which is genuine and not a counterfeit, however you find that it is the old series, then you can go to your nearest bank or Reserve Bank branch and exchange the old series for the new series R200 note.

-If you have a R200.00 note which is in fact a counterfeit, you cannot visit the bank and return it for a genuine bank note (the bank will not accept counterfeit notes), unless you can prove that you had made a withdrawal from the atm at the bank in question and that the bank had issued you with that counterfeit note.

The R200 banknotes of the upgraded series bearing the signatures of former Governor, Mr T T Mboweni and current Governor, Ms G Marcus have the security features outlined here and are not affected by the current counterfeit problem. These banknotes will remain in circulation.

If you are unsure as to what the upgraded series looks like, visit your nearest bank branch for assistance. Remember that the public is being given up until the end of May 2010 to return old notes.

I hope that this helps guys!

The Reason Why Kristen Stewart Frowns

Ever wondered why the beautiful Kristen Stewart always seems to have a strange frown on her face? I mean come on, she is the lead actress in the hugely successful Twilight Saga which has become a worldwide phenomenon and she is dating her co-star Robert Pattinson (who is quite the catch), so what more could a girl at the age of 20 who has everything going for her, ask for?

Well the 20-year-old actress sets the record straight in the June issue of Elle, saying that the perma-frown she often wears on the red carpet is really just a guise.

"I hate it when they say I don't give a s--t, because nobody cares more than I do," she says. "I'm telling you I don't know anybody who does this that gives a s--t more than I do."

Whoosaaah!

NINE STEPS ON: HOW TO GET OVER A BREAK UP, LET GO AND MOVE ON FOR GOOD!

Falling in love and being in a relationship can be an extremely wonderful feeling and experience in your life. The risk of giving your heart to someone comes with a price however, which is the possibility of having it broken by that person. When you breakup with someone you love or care deeply about, it can be one of the most horrible experiences in your life. You may feel like your world has come to an end; like your life has no meaning and there is no reason to move on. You begin to question the relationship you had with that person and analyse every memory you both had together to see where it went wrong, where you went wrong. You begin hating yourself and doubting your abilities as a partner and whether you were good enough. You can also become paranoid and start to create notions that the cause of the breakup was because of some other guy or girl.

Whatever the case may be, when you breakup with someone that you truly loved or cared about, irrespective of the reasons, there is no erase and move on button in life and you have to actually deal with the reality of the situation, deal with the pain and try and find a way to move on.

Here are 9 effective steps which will assist you in letting go and moving on with your life:

Step One:

Don’t bottle up your emotions.

Whether you are a girl or guy, allow yourself to cry. I am not suggesting that you go down to a bar with the guys or have a girl’s night with your girlfriends and begin a crying fest. You will know when and to whom you can open up to. Crying is really the first step in the healing process.

Step Two:

Don’t blame yourself.

Whatever the reason for the breakup, you need to realise that it has happened. There is no turning back. Whether you choose to analyse everything and begin to think and say things like: “I should have done this more, or I should have done that better”, it is too late. The fact of the matter is that how you both felt for each other and the love you shared with each other was not strong enough to weather the storm of the rough patches.

Now ask yourself whether you would want to be with someone who would give up so easily on the relationship in such trying times. Relationships and life are full of up hills and down hills. Do you really want to be with someone who gives up so easily and says game over when they find a few pebbles on the road, or do you want to be with someone who will stand by you and be up for the challenge of climbing those hills side by side?

Step Three:

Remember that you are not alone.

As much as you may hate the world, know that there are people in it who do love you and care for you and its times like these that you really need to have family and friends there to support you. Don’t underestimate human compassion and don’t be afraid to speak to someone you can trust for support. They may just surprise you with the lengths they will go to, to help you through this rough patch.

Step Four:

Avoid the stalking.

You know what I am talking about! If you are friends on facebook chances are that you have checked his/her status update twice already, while reading this! Are you viewing his/her profile every hour to see whether he/she has made new friends? Are you secretly viewing the friends profiles, and checking them out? If you are, stop right there because firstly it is unhealthy for you, and secondly it is downright creepy! Yes, creepy and you my friend are a stalker. You need to stop! The best thing that you can do right now is to delete your ex from you list of friends. If there are other social networks that both of you are linked to, delete them from it as well and this includes deleting their family members and close friends.

Step Five:

Resist the urge to call him/her.

Ok, so you have deleted him/her from facebook, but you still have his/her number on your phone. Deleting the number may not be so simple though. You may have the number memorized and you may be twisting your arms and you have your knees bent backwards just to prevent yourself from calling him/her. You write down on a piece of paper or you recite in your head all the things you want to tell him/her and you have this fantasy that when you make that call and give that speech, he/she is going to come running back into your arms. Right?

Stop right there. Whatever the reason for the break up was, you cannot torture yourself. Whenever you have the urge to call him/her, call a friend or family member instead. Don’t give in.

Step Six:

Do not answer his/her calls.

So you are making progress in moving on. You haven’t slipped up and called him/her in the middle of the night. You have resisted the urge to call him/her while out with friends and after you have had a few tequilas etc. You have stopped checking your phone a million times a day to see whether your ex sent you a message and you have stopped hoping beyond hope that he/she will call you, realizing that you are the best thing that could have happened to them since twitter and beg you to take them back.

But then it happens when you least expect it. You receive an incoming call or text message and it is him/her! In that instant your heart does a back flip, you palms get sweaty, all the feelings flood back and you feel like you are in square one all over again.

The fact of the matter is that whether he/she broke up with you or vice versa, when there is a break up, there are always feelings left over and there may never be complete closure for some. Your ex may also be tempted to call you, mostly out of curiosity and because they want to see how you are keeping, maybe because they miss you but honestly do not have any intention of getting back with you.

As much as it would be great to keep in contact with your ex and have them in your life as a friend, if you are still hung up on them emotionally, by you keeping them in your life and answering their calls etc, you are not allowing yourself to let go and move on.

Step Seven:

Get rid of all things that remind you of him/her.

After a break up, you will find that the person you loved will have walked out of your life, but unfortunately all the accumulated gifts, clothes and momentos that celebrated and symbolized the love that you shared with another has been left behind to haunt you. These things which seemed trivial and had gone unnoticed for so long now seem to pop up everywhere like an annoying zit, teasing and torturing you. It could be anything from a t-shirt, jewelery or a picture frame to a scent of a shampoo or song you both loved dancing to.

Do yourself a huge favour and take all of these things, place it in a box and have it delivered to your ex. If not, store it away under lock and key so that you can resist the urge to go through these things and reminisce. This will help you in being able to move on quickly.

Step Eight:

Make a list of all the negative things about your ex.

Yes, take out that pen and paper and start jotting down a list of all the negative things about your ex that comes to mind. You will be surprised at how many things which seemed cute while you were together, is actually quite annoying when you look back and think about it. Put all your thoughts about the break up down on paper. Everything that you wanted to tell him/her, how this has affected you emotionally, physically etc.

Once you have done this, you will feel much lighter, like a weight has been lifted from your heart. It works, try it – and don’t forget to throw that list away. Rip it up, burn it…just get rid of it.

Step Nine:

Start a hobby or join a different circle of friends.

If you have been in a long term relationship, you will find yourself feeling very lost and incomplete. You did everything with your ex and now all those things that seemed fun and exciting now appear mundane and boring. You were so dependant (unconsciously) on doing activities with your ex that you now feel incapable of doing the same things alone, it feels like you have lost an arm or a leg and you can’t function without it. Right?

While it may seem terrifying, you need to go out into the world and socialise. Stop mopping around. Guys shave that unkept beard which you have grown and girls treat yourself to a day spa. Dress up and go out into the world and begin to live again. If you like to dance – join a salsa dance class; if you like reading – join a book club or join the gym and enroll in the different workout classes that they offer.

This is the most opportune time for you to actually go out into the world and gain independence and create an identity that has been lost or forgotten. By you participating in activities you will find that you have become so occupied to actually stop and think about your ex and the less you think about them, the sooner you begin to heal and move on.

Remember the age old saying: time heals all things. This includes break ups. It is only when you have given yourself time and space to enjoy your life again; that you will begin to actually heal and move on. This will also increase your chances of possibly meeting someone new and better. By the time this happens, your ex will have become a distant memory.

Julius Malema dubbed "Moron" by Time magazine

ANC Youth League President Julius Malema has made international news, but for all the wrong reasons. He has been listed as one of Time magazine's Least Influential People of 2010.

The magazine had this to say: "The The President of South Africa's African National Congress Youth League Malema is just like Joe Biden — if instead of innocuous, silly slipups, Biden delivered violent, racist, misogynist rants. It got so bad, he's been censured by his party and convicted of hate speech. So he just said violent things about the party."

Ouch!

5 THINGS EVERY GIRL SHOULD KNOW HOW TO DO

Girls, I decided to compile a list of things that I personally think that every girl/woman needs to know in order to survive in today’s real world. The fact of the matter is that we are not living in a fairytale and if ever we are faced with danger or confronted with a challenge, prince charming is not going to magically ride by with his trusty steed and save the day.

We need to start developing and acquiring life skills that will assist us into becoming more independent and confident individuals. So here are 5 things that every girl should know how to do:

1. Learn How to Change a Flat Tire

Ok the mental image of actually doing this can be daunting and painful. However there comes a point in each girl’s life where you will get to own a car (hopefully a red sexy mini cooper) or perhaps you are considering buying one at that. You will of course have to get behind the wheel of this super hot car in order to actually drive yourself from point A to point B. Unfortunately even the most reliable cars cannot predict the most uncertain road conditions. Should there be an instance where you do have the unfortunate encounter of experiencing a flat tire, the last think you would want is to have a weird looking stranger by the name of Trucker stop by to help you out. Given the current crime statistics in South Africa, the number of psychos out there far outweighs the number of good samaritans. It’s time to be a man (not literally), get down on your knees and show your car who is boss! Road assistance most definitely will help, however just in case; you should learn how to do this.

2. Learn How to Stitch a Button

How many of you know how to stitch a button? This simple skill will help you not only save money and time, but also moments of embarrassment. It happens to the better of us at the most inconvenient of times. You know what I am talking about. An instance where the button on your favourite blouse falls out or where you may have bought a pair of pants for a special event only to discover after putting it on that it is too long for your frame. At these instances, whipping out the good old needle and thread and stitching that button or hemming that pants is quick, convenient and gets the work done.

3. Learn Self Defense

Ok, I am not suggesting that you go out and train yourself into becoming a killing machine like the female characters on Kill Bill. Kill Bill was a great movie (Tarantino is a genius might I add) however, I think that every girl should learn a few good and effective methods of self defense. This not only helps boost your self esteem levels but will also give you a great work out. Killing two birds with one stone…not bad!

4. Learn CPR

Learn CPR. How many of you know what CPR stands for? CPR stands for: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation. CPR is one of the most important life skills that I think every woman should acquire knowledge on. Hollywood has made us ignorant into believing that any Jane of the block can administer CPR. However, this is false and administering CPR on someone without actual knowledge on the procedure can in fact worsen the situation. There are first aid classes which you can actually attend and once you have completed such, you will be issued with a certificate of completion. You never know when this can come in handy. The fact that you now possess a skill which you can use throughout your existence and which can very well help save the life of a family member, friend or a stranger is empowering to say the least.

5. Learn How to Cook something Fabulous

Every girl should proudly have a signature dish that is down right spectacular. It can be anything from a delicious pasta dish or pot roast to something sweet and decadent like a yummy chocolate cake or malva pudding. You should be able to, when the occasion arises, whip out your culinary skills and blow the mind out of that special someone that you are trying to impress. Yes it is the 21st century however a little chivalry does not hurt and is certain to go a long way.

Take time to actually attempt the above, it will certainly empower you.

Gulf Oil Spill: Obama Promises Help as Disaster Worsens

"During his short visit in Louisiana, Obama acknowledged the risk to what he called "one of the richest and most beautiful ecosystems on the planet." And he promised to make the Gulf Coast - still recovering from a series of hurricanes, including Katrina in 2005 - whole once again. "We're going to do everything in our power to protect our natural resources, compensate those who have been harmed, rebuild what has been damaged and help this region persevere," he said. But with the spill going from bad to worse to potentially catastrophic in just a few days, Obama -and everyone involved in the response - has his work cut out for him."

I don't know about you, but I think the only person that will actually be able to help reverse this global catastrophy is Captain Planet!

Man on video sought after NYC car bomb plot FAILS

"Associated Press Writer= NEW YORK (AP) — The car bomb was a crude concoction of ordinary items — fireworks, fuel and fertilizer — that authorities suspect was meant to cause maximum mayhem in the heart of Times Square.

The hunt was on Monday for a middle-aged man who was videotaped shedding his shirt near the sport utility vehicle where the bomb was found. They also wanted to talk to the owner of the 1993 Nissan Pathfinder."

What surprises me is that my initial tip off on the car bomb came from Ashton Kutcher...yes the power of twitter (true story).

THE OFFICIAL FIFA WORLD CUP 2010 SONG SELECTED - WAKA WAKA!

Hey guys and girls. For those of you who were unaware or confused as to what the official world cup song is, look no further. The Official FIFA World Cup 2010 song is performed by Sharika, features the South African Band Freshly Ground, and is entitled ‘WAKA WAKA’.

There has been much criticism and mixed reviews (good and bad) surrounding this song. I for one, am not particularly impressed by both the lyrics of the song as well as what appears to be Freshly Ground only supporting the song which is led entirely by Shakira (it should have been the other way around).

Needless to say, in the spirit of unbuntu, let us embrace this song with open minds? At ease Soldiers!

LX SETH IS BRINGING SEXY BACK!

LX Seth is back, and he is ready to make more kick ass music yet again! The talented singer from Durban, also known as Arish Sirkissoon (born 21 June 1984) has soared to become one of South Africa’s most accomplished musicians of note. By achieving international recognition in signing with the largest recording label in India: T-SERIES INDIA, coupled with number one smash hits such as ‘Turn me on’ featured on his debut album ‘Off the Hook’, Mr. Seth has become a successful and symbolic phenomenon creating an entirely unique niche in the intercontinental music industry. The established singer has performed and worked with a variety of other South African musicians such as Melanie Lowe; Jae; Pitch Black Afro, and DJ Roxxi to name a few.

Durban’s Gossip Girl (moi) had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Seth and here is the low down on the local hottie:

1. Why the name LX Seth, is there any meaning behind it?

It’s a traditional name from India. It was written on an ancestor’s tree, so I thought it was destiny and adopted it as a name. It’s worked out for me. (D.G.G: interesting, interesting)

2. At which point in your life did you realise that you wanted to pursue music as a career? And why?

When I was a little boy, I found myself playing around and mixing music on old tape recorders. One day I recorded my voice and played it for friends, and they loved it. I started off as a producer, releasing underground albums, then I recorded my debut album, which got signed to India’s largest recording label T-SERIES, the rest is history.

3. What have been your influences in choosing the style of music that you perform?

I’m highly influenced by the late Michael Jackson. In fact I had tickets to see him just before he died, I was going to fly to London and see him at his show VIP. I was shooting a music video when he died, u can’t believe the pain I felt. Anyways, I know he is in a better place; this world is not a place for saints.

4. Do you write your own lyrics and if so where do you draw your inspiration and motivation?

Yes, I write all my own music, I draw my inspiration from love, life and my past. We all have demons inside us, mine just makes beautiful music.

5. What is the motto that you live by?

"It’s what I hear, but can’t see that defines me"… Don’t be fooled by vision, its overrated (laughs)

6. Best advice ever given to you?

The head of Universal once told me, SETH, there are going to be people who hate you, try to bring you down, they will say nasty things, but you keep your head up and move forward. I did not understand what he meant in the start, but when my debut went to number 1 on channel O, I felt the negativity, mostly from people in the industry. Jealously is a bad emotion. (D.G.G.: wise words, I love the name dropping!)

7. What was the first song that you ever sang?

I think it was Modern Talking “Brother Louie” (laugh out loud). My parents love to tell the story of how it came on the television and I started singing to it, I was three. (D.G.G: cute)

8. If you could open up for any South African singer/band on tour right now, who/which would it be? And international choice?

On an international level I would love to open for Justin Timberlake, his crowds are insane. No inspirations locally. We just had a number one single in the states on 101 distribution.com, so Justin is not too far away.

9. What are the 3 things that you can’t live without?

My cell phone, my car, my mom… (D.G.G: 3 tweets!)

10. Are you single or in a relationship?

(laughs out loud), I don’t like to answer those types of questions. My private life should be private … Sorry [D.G.G: Oh the air of mystery...sorry girls...I will use my super gossip girl powers to get the scoop soon! (wink wink)]

11. Favourite food?

I love anything with potatoes, backed potatoes, wedges, chips, O.M.G!! I’m hungry now! (D.G.G: Snap! Hand this guy a bag of chips!)

12. Favourite hang out in Durban?

FESTISH lounge, just so elegant, smooth, fresh, the management is awesome. (D.G.G: Sweet!)

13. In five years time you will be….?

The number one recording artist overseas, from South Africa. (D.G.G: confident and positive...I like!)

14. Do you have anything new to advertise/make public, performances/gigs lined up?

I just shot a music video at FETISH LOUNGE last night, the video is by Lucid Media. The video is going to be insane. (D.G.G: excellent!)

Well there you have it. This singer/performer/producer is taking on the South African music industry by storm and is ready to rock the music charts from coast to coast…a sure force to be reckoned with. Watch this space!
